detroit is bigger than your city......

The remarkable thing about this past month is the notable contrast between; vacation and school/work, homework and not, quiet and screeching, uncluttered and disaster relief, crusty and moistly dribbly, not too smelly and quite too smelly. Dave went on work trips to new york and las vegas while the kids and Kar did homework. Then… we switched all that and the kids took spring break while Dave took a week off. We mostly played, and uncluttered the house, and ate food, sometimes we slept and went on family adventures like visiting the natural history science museum at the university of Michigan and the ford rouge plant. Maddies favorite exhibit was most likely the family of possums, “this is the cutest photo ever”. Josh enjoyed the big canoe and checking out germs in microscopes… he also enjoyed the full immersion surround sound movie of “making trucks”, a complete multi-sensory experience. Kar I’m willing to bet liked having everyone around, she wasn’t outnumbered even once for a whole week. Dave still likes dinosaur bones, and mammoths, and all those cool stuffed predatory birds as well as wolves, and little weasles, and ……… being with Kar and the little people. Jake liked to pretend he was the snarling wolf, even the day before we saw it.

Other highlights this month:

- Josh lost his tooth in a croissant, and got a bulls-eye shooting a bow and arrow.

- Maddie sang in church and gave a talk all in one day, and is a serious math whiz.

- Jacob has cheeks that are so pinchable people can’t stand it. He can get from sitting up to his belly and then back to sitting up again, and can do “mountain climbers”. No crawling yet.

Kid quotes:

“Homework kills trees. Play video games.” –Josh’s slogan, lifted from a t-shirt we think

“You’re the graham cracker fairy’s secretary.” -Josh, to Dave (long story)

“Jake is our sensei!” –Josh and Maddie (as ninjas)

“Bugs Bunny is really….intelligent.” –Maddie, with crack analysis on her first experience with watching Looney Tunes

“Pronoun trouble.” -Daffy Duck (I get into pronoun trouble all of the time)
